Rinpoche and My Family

I remember he always said something funny and shocking and very much worth thinking about to my mother, when it was her turn to go up to him. She always came back to her chair with a happy dazed look on her face.

I was a very lucky little girl. My father, John Estridge and mother Renee had been Buddhists since the mid 70’s. He was very close to Khenpo. He would even come to our house for dinner back in the 80’s in Warwick NY. And later when my parents moved back to NYC. I remember one time my aunt wanted to come to dinner because Khenpo was coming. So she nervously poured hot coffee on Khenpos lap! He Barely flinched! She was freaking out, wiping him down. That was cracking him up!

I remember he was always laughing. I can’t remember the translators name but he was really cool too! Unfortunately as the years went on, we saw less and less of him. Except for going to his talks.

I remember he always said something funny and shocking and very much worth thinking about to my mother when it was her turn to go up to him. She always came back to her chair in a happy dazed look on her face. I think he got a kick out of my mother. My father was more serious though. I was a teenager then and wasn’t quite interested. But I am proud to say that my sister and I got to take refuge from Khenpo a few years ago. I wish I could remember more stories but I was out partying back then. 😕.

All I know was that he made us all have a special feeling when he was around. Much love to our lovely, sweet and funny Khenpo! This has always been one of my favorite pictures of Khenpo!
