Remembering Rinpoche
THOSE WHO had the good fortune to have met Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche know that our beloved abbot and teacher was, and is, a fountain of benefit for all sentient beings. He continues to benefit us through his many years of teachings, of course, but also through his loving smile, compassionate heart and continual demonstration of the Bodhisattva’s way of life. Few who came into his presence were not deeply moved by his love for all the sentient beings in his care.
With this tribute site we bring the master to our mind, over and over again, so that we remain continually in his presence. As you view the material on this site, please consider if you might also have something you would like to share as we all remember the amazing Khabje Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche.
Our Stories of the Master
Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche and Thrangu Rinpoche
Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche shared a special relationship with Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. Khenpo Rinpoche was about 15 years older than Thrangu Rinpoche and was Thrangu Rinpoche’s study attendant when Thrangu Rinpoche was young. Stories of their friendship could fill books.

The Amazing Life of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche
Born in 1924 in Old Tibet, Khenpo Rinpoche was a shining light of his generation. How did he escape in 1959, settle in exile and then travel to America? This story tells the tale.
Cremation and the Signs
After his seven days of thukdam, Rinpoche’s kudung (precious body) rested in the shrine hall at Karme Ling for three days so that people could offer their last respects. Then two days before the cremation, the Dorje Lopon gave a talk to the disciples gathered at Karme Ling.
